The River Hill girls lacrosse team had a strong showing over spring break, winning both of its tournament games in convincing fashion. The Hawks defeated Bowie and Glen Burnie by a combined score of 40–0, demonstrating solid teamwork, strong passing, and consistent effort on both sides of the field.
River Hill opened the tournament with a 19–0 win over Bowie. From the start, the Hawks controlled the game by moving the ball well and taking smart shots. Sophomore Olivia Creighton led the team with five goals. Sophomore Fiona Devine added three goals, while junior Sydney Case scored two. Junior Charlotte Laraway, a Division I UMBC commit, also finished with three goals. Juniors Camila Cornell and Millie George each added one goal to help complete the win.
Devine spoke about the team’s offense after the game. “We’ve been working on moving the ball quickly and finding the open player,” she said. “It’s been helping us get better looks and produce a lot more.”
The Hawks followed that performance with another big win, beating Glen Burnie 21–0. Once again, River Hill controlled the pace and created many scoring chances. Laraway led the team with seven goals. Devine scored five goals, and Creighton added four. Case had one goal and also recorded six assists, helping set up her teammates throughout the game. Cornell added another goal as the Hawks stayed in control from start to finish.
After the second game, Case talked about the team’s mindset. “We just wanted to come out strong and play our game,” she said. “Everyone was involved, and we kept the energy up the whole time.”
So far this season, Creighton, Devine, and Laraway have been leading the team in scoring. Their chemistry in working together and finding one another has been a key factor in the team’s success. At the same time, the defense has stayed strong, helping the team keep back-to-back shutouts in the tournament.
Looking ahead, River Hill is preparing for two important games this week against Glenelg and Reservoir. These are both rivalry matchups, and the team knows they will be more competitive.
Laraway shared her thoughts going into the week. “We know those games will be tougher,” she said. “We just need to stay focused, play together, and keep improving.” With strong momentum from the tournament, the Hawks look ready to take on the challenges ahead and continue building a successful season in hopes of winning a state championship.
