The River Hill Hawks golf team continued its success this season, winning its sixth consecutive district championship on October 12th, before competing at the county championships at Fairway Hills. The Hawks finished districts with a team score of 290, beating the second-place team by nine strokes. Freshman Elisha Yim also had an impressive performance at counties, winning the individual championship with a score of 67 and qualifying for states.
At districts, the Hawks had solid performances from all five golfers. Junior Justin Zhao shot a 71, while junior Dhruv Kasargod finished with an 82. Freshman Elisha Yim shot a 68, and seniors Michelle Yeung and Evelyn Park shot 75 and 76, respectively. The team’s score of 290 was enough to secure another district title for River Hill.
Winning six district championships in a row shows how consistently the Hawks have performed over the years. Despite changes in the lineup each season, River Hill has continued to compete at a high level.
Junior Dhruv Kasargod reflected on the team’s continued success. “Winning districts six years in a row is a big accomplishment. Everyone contributed, and it shows how much work the team has put in,” Kasargod said.
After districts, the team competed at the county championships, held at Fairway Hills. While districts determined the team champion, counties focused on individual results, with golfers competing against others from across the county. Yim stood out once again, finishing with a score of 67 to win the county championship.
Yim’s performance was especially impressive for a freshman. Competing against older and more experienced golfers, he finished at the top of the field and earned a spot at the state championship. His performance has made him an important addition to the Hawks’ lineup.
Senior Aaron Kim spoke about the team’s accomplishments this season. “We’ve had a great season so far, and it’s exciting to see the team keep winning. Hopefully, we can carry that momentum into states,” Kim said.
Senior Casey Moss also shared his thoughts on the team’s success. “Winning districts again is something the team can be proud of. We know states will be a challenge, but we’re looking forward to competing,” Moss said.
With six straight district championships and Yim’s individual county title, the Hawks now have a chance to accomplish even more. River Hill looks like one of the teams to watch heading into states, the statewide championship where golfers compete against top players from across Maryland. Winning districts as a team, counties individually, and a state title would be a huge accomplishment for the program.
Both the team’s experience and Yim’s individual performance give River Hill plenty of reasons to be confident heading into the final stretch of the season. With the team continuing its district championship streak and a freshman already winning counties, River Hill will look to carry its success into the state competition.
