Girls have been told that they can never be as fast, or as strong boys since the beginning of time, and girls have proven those people wrong, since the beginning of time. If you like movies like Just One of the Guy’s, John Tucker Must Die, It’s a Boy Girl Thing, and or She’s All That, then you will love She’s The Man. She’s The Man is a romantic comedy that empowers girls to go after their dreams.
After main character, Viola, finds out that her school’s soccer team was eliminated, she decides to pose as her brother, Sebastian, at Cornwall’s rival school, Illyria, in order to play soccer for the boys team. Illyria is a boarding school, so Viola has to pretend to be a guy 24/7. Viola shares a dorm with Duke, who also plays soccer. After she does not make first string soccer, Viola makes a deal with Duke where Duke helps Viola make first string for the Cornwall game and Viola helps Duke score a date with his crush, Olivia.
Throughout all Viola’s time at Illyria, her classmates stay convinced she is a he. As you can imagine, things get very complicated.
Olivia starts to develop feelings for Viola, who she thinks is Sebastian, and Viola develops feelings Duke, and Duke also thinks that she is a boy. Things become even more complicated when Sebastian returns to Illyria without realizing that Viola was posing as him.
This movie has a phenomenal cast. Amanda Bynes plays Viola, Channing Tatum plays Duke, Laura Ramsey plays Olivia, and David Cross plays the dean of Illyria. You may recognize Amanda Bynes from the The Amanda Show, Hairspray, What a Girl Wants, and Easy A.
Channing Tatum has also been in many hit movies including 21 Jump street, The Vow, Dear John, Magic Mike, and White House Down. Laura Ramsey also starred in the movies, The Ruins, The Covenant, and Kill The Irishmen. You may also recognize David Cross from the movie Alvin and the Chipmunks, and Pitch Perfect Two.
The director of the film, Andy Fickman, also directed You Again, Race to Witch Mountain, The Game Plan, and Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2. Fickman was nominated for the best sports movie Espy Award for his film The Game Plan.
The music in this film helps set the mood of the scenes. For example, when Viola first steps on campus at Illyria, the song “Good Girl, Bad Boy” plays which sets the mood, exciting but anxious.
She’s The Man is a classic teen comedy that you could watch 100 times and still find it funny. I recommend that people find out when the movie will be airing on television and set your DVR to record it!
