Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is an American sitcom created by Tina Fey and Robert Carlock. It stars Ellie Kemper as Kimmy, and is available for streaming on Netflix.
This series features the misadventures of Kimmy Schmidt as she adjusts to life in New York City. Schmidt and three other women were recently rescued from a doomsday cult that they had been tricked into hiding in for over 15 years. Now, with barely a high school education, and only cash from donors who give to their pity organization, these women have no idea how anything in the world works. Luckily, Kimmy quickly befriends her landlady, Lillian, her roommate, Titus Andromedon, and her filthy rich boss, for whom she works as a nanny. Each of these characters try to help Kimmy survive in the Big Apple and jumpstart her adult life.
The role of Kimmy Schmidt is played by Ellie Kemper, who is known for her role as Erin Hannon in The Office and her supporting roles in 21 Jump Street and Bridesmaids. Tituss Burgess, known for Grand Theft Auto V and 30 Rock, takes on the role of Schmidt’s flamboyantly gay roommate while Carol Kane, famous for playing Allison in Annie Hall and her secondary roles in The Princess Bride and Dog Day Afternoon, is Kimmy’s ‘street-smart’ landlady. Also, the role of Jacqueline Voorhees, the detached from society rich lady, is played by Jane Krakowski, also known for her work on 30 Rock, her voice as Rachel in Ice Age, and as Elaine in Ally McBeal. The show was created and written by Tina Fey (Saturday Night Live, Mean Girls, and 30 Rock) and Robert Carlock (Friends, Saturday Night Live, and 30 Rock). Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt has been directed by many, but mainly by Tristram Shapeero.
In addition to a clever and creative plot, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt has excellent acting and cinematography. Ellie Kemper is a very comedic actress who very accurately portrays Schmidt as a clueless and energetic character. Overall, the show’s script is very funny and many of the actor’s lines make the viewer bust out laughing. Also, the show is recorded in a very real setting, New York City, with sets that are exact replicas of actual NYC.
I would recommend Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt to anyone who wants a good laugh and an intriguing show. After watching only the first few episodes, I have already fell in love with it and I am very excited for the two more seasons guaranteed by Netflix
