The NHL season officially came to an end after the Carolina Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup. After months of regular season games and several rounds of playoffs, the Hurricanes earned hockey’s biggest prize and gave fans plenty to celebrate.
Throughout the playoffs, students around the school followed the action closely. Many watched games at home, checked scores on their phones, and talked about the playoffs with friends during lunch and between classes.
Junior Milan Shah said he enjoyed watching the Hurricanes throughout their championship run.
“They played really well as a team,” he said. “It felt like they were always ready for big moments.”
The Stanley Cup is awarded each year to the NHL champion. To win it, teams must make it through four playoff rounds against some of the best teams in the league. Because of this, many fans consider it one of the hardest championships to win in sports.
Junior Ethan Luo said the playoffs were exciting because every game mattered.
“The intensity is a lot higher than the regular season,” Luo said. “You can tell how much the players want to win.”
As the playoffs continued, more students started paying attention to the games. Social media highlights, game recaps, and conversations with friends helped bring attention to the championship series.
Junior Lucas Ballou said the playoffs made him watch more hockey than usual.
“I don’t watch every game during the regular season,” he said. “But the playoffs are fun to watch because every game feels important.”
Many students also enjoyed seeing the close games and big moments that happened throughout the postseason. Overtime goals, game-saving plays, and exciting finishes kept fans interested until the very end.
For students who play sports themselves, the Stanley Cup playoffs are a reminder of the hard work that goes into competing at a high level.
Senior Ryan Walsh said he enjoys watching how hard players compete during the playoffs.
“Everybody is giving their best effort,” Walsh said. “That’s what makes playoff hockey so fun to watch.”
The Hurricanes’ championship brought an end to another memorable NHL season. Fans across the school followed the playoffs from the opening round all the way to the final game. Whether students watched every game or just followed the highlights, many agreed that this year’s Stanley Cup playoffs were exciting from start to finish.
Now that the season is over, hockey fans will have to wait until next year for another chance to see teams compete for the Stanley Cup. Until then, students can look back on a playoff run that ended with the Hurricanes lifting hockey’s most famous trophy.
