It seems prom prep for girls is much more extensive than for guys. Girls have to schedule their hair and nail appointments, and find the perfect dress.
Gracyn Minick, a senior at River Hill, explains, “There is a lot that goes into preparing for prom, it takes me a long time to find the perfect dress but that’s not even the beginning of it.” When discussing shopping for prom dresses, The best places to look for dresses were Windsor in the Columbia mall, Deja Vu in Mount Airy, and Treasure Island in Annapolis. Junior Brooke Lauman was discussing what preparation goes into prom days before and she said, “Normally the days leading to prom are stressful, I have to get my nails and hair done, I have to tan and I have to make plans with my friends for after prom.” At River Hill, both juniors and seniors are able to attend prom. But due to COVID, prom was canceled last year so people are excited to dress up and enjoy a school dance.
The guys I talked to don’t seem to be as worried about prom preparation yet.
Many guys that have discussed prom at River Hill have said they are not quite beginning to prepare yet, although they have begun thinking about who they are going to ask as well as looking for suits and colors to match their dates’ dresses. Senior Omaer Rafiq said, “I haven’t done much for prom prep yet, although I have been thinking about who I want to ask, but other than that I haven’t really thought about it.”
Although some guys haven’t been thinking too much about prom, to guys that have been brainstorming what they will wear in acquaintance to their date. Senior Ethan Varani states, “I have been looking for black suits because my date will be wearing a black dress; I think we are going to match her heels to my tie.”
