On November 13th, in less than ideal conditions for soccer, or really any sport, River Hill Boys Soccer completed their undefeated season in 2014, capturing the 3A state championship. With the win, the team’s final record for the year was 18-0-1.
The Hawks defeated the Huntingtown Hurricanes 2-0 on a wet, frigid night at the Ridley Athletic Complex at Loyola University. There was precipitation throughout the duration of the game, often alternating between rain and snow. By the end of the game, however, it was all snow, and it was coming down pretty heavily.
The Hawks’ first goal was scored by Gabriel Quintero, assisted by Mike Heitzmann, with just over five minutes remaining in the first half. The half ended with a 1-0 score. After the break, in the 65th minute, Mike Faderin had a breakaway opportunity, and was fouled in the box, giving River Hill a penalty kick. Robert Dass came forward to take the kick, and put it into the top left corner of the net for the Hawks’ second goal of the game.
As the clock began to wind down, the players began celebrating on the field and on the sideline, with hugs and smiles for everyone on the team.
