{"id":1922,"date":"2021-11-15T12:12:08","date_gmt":"2021-11-15T17:12:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/riverhillcurrent.com\/?p=1922"},"modified":"2021-11-15T12:12:10","modified_gmt":"2021-11-15T17:12:10","slug":"board-of-education-votes-to-add-early-dismissal-day-once-a-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riverhillcurrent.com\/board-of-education-votes-to-add-early-dismissal-day-once-a-month\/","title":{"rendered":"Board of Education Votes to Add Early Dismissal Day Once a Month"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>By Maire Crooks, News Editor<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Tuesday, November 2, the HCPSS Board of Education unanimously voted to add a three hour early dismissal day on one Wednesday each month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new early dismissal days will go into effect starting December 15th to \u201cprovide school-based staff with additional time to address increased staff workload and to support employee well-being,\u201d according to Board member Vicky Cutroneo on Facebook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think [the added early dismissal days are] good,\u201d explains Tyler Massaro, a sophomore at River Hill. He plans to do homework in his newfound free time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Helen Yeung (10) agrees with Tyler, adding that she thinks they \u201cwill help mentally.\u201d She would love to have the early dismissal days increased to once a week, and even hopes to \u201chave Wednesdays off\u201d eventually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, others believe that the decision is a vote against students. Many say the early dismissal will take away valuable instructional time and disrupt a routine school week. Cutroneo describes the Board\u2019s reasoning for doing this, explaining that \u201c6 Wednesday afternoons are a lifeline for many of our educators, paraeducators and support staff who feel like they [are] barely hanging on.\u201d She claims that \u201ca vote to support educators is not a vote against students or parents.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The early dismissal days for the remainder of the 2021-22 school year are as follows: December 15th, January 19th, February 16th, March 16th, April 27th, and May 18th.
