With Starbucks being so close to the school, many students enjoy getting coffee before school as a pick-me-up.
Most students look towards coffee after pulling all-nighters and staying up late to study for tests. Getting a quick fix at Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts can be a great short-term solution, but, as many students know, the caffeinated beverage also has drawbacks.
A lot of students can be seen walking around school with their coffee, which prompts the question: What kinds of drinks are popular at River Hill?
As well as enjoying the typical coffee drinks, students also like to drink the other beverages Starbuck has to offer. Sophomore Lily Peng says her go-to drink at Starbucks is the “Pink drink.” Vedanti Patel, also a sophomore, responds, “I usually get a matcha latte, but their shake and espressos are really good.” On the other hand, senior Allison Radcliffe replies with, “At Starbucks I love cold brews, especially the nitro cold brews.”
Recovering after a sleepless night, students appreciate the quick boost of energy from drinking coffee. Lily agrees with this and states, “It wakes you up in the mornings.” Sophomore Sarah Chin adds, “It’s necessary because I don’t sleep.”
As the adrenaline rush wears off, students may start to struggle with a serious addiction to coffee. While it is good for making up for lost hours of sleep, constantly relying on coffee can lead to long-term damage.
Sharing her thoughts, Sarah acknowledges that, “I rely on it but I’m not obsessed; if I wanted to stop I could. I don’t need to drink it.”
Students enjoy drinking coffee at school and using it as a quick solution for sleepiness, but are still able to recognize the effects it can have on their health.
