River Hill High School students were asked a simple yet thought-provoking question: “What do you want out of high school?” The answers were interesting, while some students wish to pursue academic success, others focused on networking, social connections, and personal growth.
Student goals for high school differ widely from person to person. Students at River Hill High School have access to a variety of services that can aid them with their academic success. River Hill has something to offer for anybody and everybody with an interest in leadership, networking, attending a reputable college, or even starting their own business.
“In high school, I want to challenge myself academically and take advanced courses to build a strong foundation for my future,” said senior Jaden Watson, “but I also want to take advantage of the opportunities to explore my interests and passions and figure out what I want to do with my life.”
In their senior year of high school, many students hope to build their leadership abilities. The Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) club and other organizations at River Hill provide numerous chances for students to assume leadership positions. An FBLA member, Suhani Patel states, “Being part of FBLA has given me the opportunity to develop my leadership skills and take on roles that I never thought I could handle.” Through FBLA and other organizations, students can build critical skills that will serve them well in college, careers, and beyond.
Another ambition that might interest students in achieving their aspirations after high school is networking. Through initiatives like internships and job shadowing, River Hill gives students several chances to network with professionals in their chosen fields. “I want to make connections with people who can help me achieve my goals and who I can learn from,” said junior Mannat Gill.
For students interested in pursuing independent research, River Hill High School also offers an Independent Research (IR) program. Under the guidance of a mentor, students develop a research question, conduct research, and present their findings to a panel of experts.
“The IR program has been an incredible opportunity for me to explore my interests and develop my research skills,” said senior Kayin Buckley, “my mentor has been an invaluable resource, guiding me through every step of the research process and helping me develop as a scholar.”
Many high school students want to attend a good college, and River Hill gives students the tools they need to accomplish this dream. Students have access to counselors who may assist them in navigating the application process and the school offers a demanding academic program. According to Junior Gabi Demuren “Attending a reputable college has been a dream of mine since I was young, and River Hill High School has provided me with the tools and resources I need to make that dream a reality. The school’s counselors have been incredibly helpful in guiding me through the college application process and providing me with valuable advice and support. The challenging academic program has also prepared me for the rigor of college-level coursework and helped me develop the skills I need to succeed in higher education.”
River Hill High School offers a range of resources and opportunities to support its students in achieving their diverse goals and aspirations. From academic and extracurricular programs to specialized services and community partnerships, River Hill’s commitment to student success is evident. As senior Elliot Dysant puts it, “River Hill High School has provided me with the tools and support I need to pursue my dreams and make a positive impact in my community.” Whether students aim to excel academically, develop their talents and passions, or launch their own businesses, River Hill is dedicated to helping them succeed.
