With the anticipation around Halloween this year, many students at River Hill are going all out on their costumes in an attempt to keep up with the latest trends. Because of COVID last year, people weren’t able to celebrate Halloween like normal. Many Halloween trends have been spiraling around Pinterest and Instagram, giving people ideas on what they want to wear on Halloween this year.
Senior Maddie Lynott states, “This year I’ve seen a lot of cool costumes, but the one I have seen the most is a flashy astronaut costume.” She explained that she saw the costume pop up many times on Pinterest and TikTok. This year Maddie is going to be a Harley Davidson biker, inspired by posts on Instagram. Her costume consists of a black shirt, leather jacket, and balck leather skirt. She explains that her costume may seem basic to the eye, but is put to life with lively makeup. Along with that, many other people said they were going to be devils, cowboys, and pirates this year.
Last year, many people were not able to celebrate Halloween together due to COVID-19. But this time around, people are very excited to show off their costumes and feel the Halloween spirit as in previous years. A lot of people are planning on helping their family hand out candy to trick-or-treaters, or going to Halloween parties with family and friends.
Senior Abigail Uhl says, “This year I’m going to a halloween party, I’m very excited because this will be one of the first parties I have been to since COVID.” She explained that she is excited because everyone wants to dress up in costumes and “it will actually feel like Halloween this year.” Abigail explained that she is going to be princess Ariel in a group costume of Disney princesses. She described how her outfit consists of a purple shell top and a green skirt with a shell crown and accessories to match.
With COVID-19 interrupting festivities last year, this year will be all the more exciting. Whether you are going to a party or giving out candy with your family, have a safe and trendy Halloween.
