Track season is in full swing, and athletes of all abilities are lacing up their running shoes and getting ready for the exhilarating sport that displays speed, skill and determination. Whether you’re a sprinter, a long-distance runner, or participate in a field event, track offers a unique and exciting experience that pushes athletes to their limits.
While everyone is working to get faster at decreasing their running times, it takes constant training and dedication to achieve the feat. At their meet on Thursday, April 13, some track students spoke on how meets feel and all the preparation to complete it.
With a mix of experienced seniors and talented underclassmen, the team has been pushing each other to new heights. “We have a great group of athletes with diverse talents,” said Sophomore, Eryn Leah. “It’s been amazing to see how we’ve come together as a team and supported each other.”
However, the road to success hasn’t been without its challenges. The team has faced several setbacks, including injuries and weather-related disruptions to their training schedule. Despite these obstacles, the athletes have maintained a positive attitude and continue to put in the hard work to improve their performance.
Junior sprinter Gabi Demuren shared her thoughts on the team’s resilience, saying, “We’ve had some tough days, but we’ve learned to adapt and keep pushing forward. It’s not always easy, but we’re determined to keep improving and chasing our goals.”
Track is a very simple sport with a one chance opportunity to improve a single time. You train every day to only shave off a few milliseconds. Nevertheless those milliseconds mean maybe a month of work. Track is a sport you can truly appreciate. It is based on consistency and a final moment. You can imagine how it would be like if you were a track athlete. So look at your track classmates in a new light.
The track team experiences this feeling throughout the whole spring season but some enjoy it and aspire to become great athletes. So team members remain focused on reaching the state championships as the season progresses. It may not be the biggest results or headlines, but the River Hill track team continues to put in the hard work day in and day out, improving steadily.
