As of Thursday, May 26, the last day of school for River Hill’s senior class, students have noticed a lot of changes, whether it’s fewer crowds in the hallways or more empty seats in their class. Jiya Amin shared, “I was friends with a lot of the seniors, so it’s sad that they’re not here.” She continued that she’s “very happy they’re moving on to another part of their life.” Other students shared how they are adjusting to the sudden absence of the senior class.
One noticeable change that has occurred since the seniors left has been the school parking lot. With a majority of the student drivers gone, the parking lot is becoming almost vacant, and school traffic has lightened up. Junior Leah Nesmith observed how “the line to get to school is a lot shorter” since the seniors have left.
With the now open parking lot, more juniors are also welcome to obtain a parking permit for the remainder of the school year. Since there are only a couple more weeks of school, the parking permits are free for all juniors to get. Leah also shared, “I will definitely be driving to school now that there is room in the parking lot.” Clearly, the open parking lot is exciting for future River Hill drivers.
Another obvious change in the school is the empty classes and clear hallways. Sophomore Mira Nagampalli explained how “the hallways have been way more empty since the seniors left.” Mira continued that “it’s been a lot easier to get to my classes too.” Before the seniors left, the hallways were always packed, creating lots of buildup in the hallways. The staircases also lightened throughout the school, creating a clearer path to students’ next classes. Since hallway traffic has been a long time issue with the school, it seems that with the large seniors class gone, people are able to travel through the school more easily.
With the senior class now graduated, the rest of the students at River Hill are adjusting to the emptiness in the school, however, we are all very proud and will miss the senior class of 2022.
