With This school year ending, looking back at it this has probably been one of the most strange and unique years for students. Covid-19 hitting and schools closing and transitioning to distance learning in March affected students in many different ways.
While some thrived in distance learning, others had issues, especially with their mental health. With this year’s online learning, there is no face to face interaction unless you were the very few that came in person, and this has a big effect on students. Also teachers were unable to have the same connection they do with students. Students were nowhere near as engaged as they used to be, sophomore Samar Guhman even said that “being online for most of the day is tiring and annoying, and sometimes I would feel disinterested and not have a lot of focus.”
Another issue that arose is how students were not seeing friends like they used to, which made some students feel alone and stressed out. The approach of summer should provide everyone, including teachers, a chance to relax from this strange year, and try to get back to normal and do things that bring joy.
