As the school year comes to an end at River Hill High School, students are gearing up for a summer full of exciting plans. From relaxation to travel, many students plan on making the most of their break. Whether just chilling or traveling all around the world, students are ready to make this summer the best one yet.
Travel is a very big part of summer break. This is finally your time to take a breath, catch a plane, and step away from your worries without coming back to piled up school work. Sophomore Mia Craig is “super excited to go to Spain. I love the people, food, atmosphere, everything in general about Spain. I am in the National Spanish Honor Society because I have always had a passion for speaking Spanish and learning more about Spanish culture.”
Like Mia, sophomore Masa Altamimi is also planning on leaving the country. She is “going to Jordan for most of the summer. I have a lot of family that lives there so quite often we will go to visit them during my summer break.” This has always been a fun experience for her and she “really enjoy[s] spending time there because it gives me a break from school, friends, and anything else. I can just hang out with my grandparents and chill.”
For many, the summer weather invites warmth, late night drives, tanning, and all the ice cold drinks you could imagine. Sophomore Gisele Hawkins is ready to kick into her summer gear. She is going to “sit by the pool the whole summer. When I’m not at the beach you are going to catch me getting some sun because I really missed the warm weather that comes with summer.”
Similarly, sophomore Gwen Sokira plans on “staying home for most of the summer. I am going to the beach for the first week, but other than that I don’t have any big trips planned with my family. I just plan on hanging out with my friends a lot and getting a tan again.”
With summer comes hanging out with friends. This is finally the time when you don’t have to worry about staying out too late and being too tired for a test the next day. You can go out and have fun without the pressures of your homework assignments creeping up on you. Sophomore Wasif Khalid shares “I plan on getting a job. Now that I have my license I am able to get transportation there and back. I am trying to get my money up this summer so that I can afford the things I want.”
With the same idea, sophomore Isha Patel also wants to get a job. “I would really like to start working because it may teach me some more responsibility while also giving me a chance to make money.”
As summer unfolds and school pressures lessen, the students at River Hill are embracing their chance to grow and enjoy a long awaited chance to unwind through traveling or taking it easy. No matter how they choose to spend their time, these experiences will leave them refreshed and ready for another great year at River Hill for the 2025-2026 School Year.
