Have you ever started to watch a TV show because of how great everyone says it is and then have it not live up to your expectations? This is how I figured I would feel when I finally decided to start watching Stranger Things. Every day I kept hearing more and more people talking about how great the show was and how I needed to watch it. After watching most of the series in about a week, I can definitely say that the show lived up to and past expectations.
The widely popular TV series mixes elements of drama, fantasy, and horror. The Duffer Brothers have spoken at length about how they were inspired by the Steven Spielberg and Stephen King novels they grew up consuming. Many other movies and shows are centered around creepy happenings in suburban America. The reason that Stranger Things is so much more successful than these other similar movies is their excellent character development. For example, the group of boys that the show is centered around all have their funny moments. The Duffer Brothers really know how to make you feel like you know each and every one of the characters personally. The show can be seen on Netflix, as it is a Netflix original show.
A tribute to the ’80s classics that captivated a generation, Stranger Things is set in 1983 Indiana, where a young boy vanishes into thin air. As friends, family and local police search for answers, they are drawn into an extraordinary mystery involving top-secret government experiments, and terrifying supernatural activity. The first season introduces the main characters such as Will Byers, Dustin, Michael, Lucas, Nancy, Joyce, and my personal favorite, The Hopper. During the first season, this group of characters all go their separate paths on the journey to find the lost boy, Will Byers. Many of these characters find some very interesting evidence that the crazy scientists at Hawkins Lab have something to do with the disappearance of Will. We will see if they can work together and take down the “bad guys” at Hawkins Lab or fight whatever else might be behind the mystery.
One of the many reasons why Stranger Things has become so popular is the excellent actors and actresses in the show. The main actors and actresses include Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, and Caleb McLaughlin. Winona Ryder has been in many popular films including Black Swan, Little Women, and The Age of Innocence. Another excellent actress in the show is Millie Bobby Brown who plays the role of Eleven in Stranger Things. Millie has the toughest job in the show because of the fact that she has to play a girl who can control things with her mind.
The Duffer Brothers have done an amazing job in the creation of Stranger Things. I love the way they use music to make the audience believe something is going to jump out and scare them but then nothing happens. I would recommend this show to anyone regardless of if you like drama or horror movies. I don’t necessarily love scary/horror movies but even I love this show. So if you ever need something to do on a rainy day, I highly recommend giving Stranger Things a chance
