A couple weeks ago, River Hill High School was hit by a storm, a fruit storm. Students were juiced up about the new and sweet addition to the cafeteria menu, smoothies!
“Mango pineapple is so much better than the strawberry banana” says Joshua Ward, a senior who has been eating school lunches for the past 4 years.
When deciding what a student desires as a post-lunch treat, one can not go wrong with either flavor. Both mango-pineapple and Strawberry-banana have captured the taste buds of our educational institution. This addition to the Rhhs menu is a school favorite. Students have been seen going back in line for a 2nd and 3rd round of smoothies.
What goes into the smoothies to make them so delicious, is no mystery.
“Ah, I just got a clump of pineapple” says Kelsey Firman. Clearly, students do not need to worry about what is in their cup.
Some choose to drink it out of the cup while others prefer to use a spoon.
“It’s the perfect texture honestly, not too liquidy, not too solid either” states Ian Kirn, who is a big fan of spooning his smoothie.
The school’s decision to instal smoothie machines is the best decision the administration has made in a while. Who can be sad when they are sipping one of these fruity delicacies. That’s right. No one. Had a bad day? Let the strawberry soothe your soul. Feeling tired? A zip of mango-pineapple will do the trick.
You know what is even better? The price for one smoothie is only $1.75. That is a steal for a real fruit smoothie. For 5$ you can get a full lunch and a smoothie. This just goes to show that HCPSS cares about it’s students, and is not afraid to show it.
“This made my day honestly, I didn’t eat breakfast so I came here to get a smoothie during A lunch” says Nina Esposito Faraone. These smoothies are so versatile.
The only downside is that they take a while to make. You have to add ice with the fruit and then wait for at least 45 minutes before they are the right consistency to serve. One day, I wanted a smoothie before 1st period and I was so happy until the lunch lady told me “ sorry they are not ready yet”. The availability of the smoothies might be delayed to A lunch until further notice.
Either way, students are very happy with this slight change that made such a big difference in their lunch experience.
