With fourth-quarter rolling in, River Hill seniors are trying their best to make it to the end of the year, let alone spring break. With the third senior skip day happening on Monday, March 20th, students were relieved to have a nice relaxing day where they can sleep in and do whatever they want.
There are many ways seniors can take their free day to their advantage, whether it’s catching up on work for some of their more challenging classes, or simply hanging out with a few of their friends. Senior Maddie Antevil decided to spend her day prom dress shopping; and explained, “I felt like it was the right time to go because not that many people would be there since they were in school.” Many others went shopping as well, noticing that places like the mall were quite empty around noon.
Even with the opportunity of a day off of school, some students still have to go to school to complete work or take tests. Senior Ellie Axler said that she “had to come into school for choir assessments. Even though they started at 1 PM, I still had to be here the whole day.” Many students, including athletes, still had to show up to school so they were able to participate in practice or play in any games.
Some teachers were aware of this skip day, naming it a wellness day for the students who came in, but others went along with what they were planning on doing that day. A lot of seniors as well have some sort of work release or leave early from school. One such student, Anna Markari, said, “I only take two classes here so it isn’t worth getting a mark on my attendance. I’m usually not here during the day much anyways.”
Many seniors took the day to simply relax at home and sleep into the late hours of the morning. Some students who have stay-at-home parents got to spend the day bothering their parents as they were trying to work, which deep down, they sure enjoy. With the late start to the morning, Senior Paula Elguera explained, “My day was pretty normal as I went to practice and watched Netflix and stuff like that, but I did get to go to lunch with my mom, which was fun to spend that time with her.”
With only one more senior skip day ahead of us, students are on their own to decide how much senioritis can take over. Even though River Hill seniors still have to deal with the rest of the year until graduation, a little break here and there is extremely appreciated.
