Over the summer, a number of renovations were made at River Hill High School. The floor throughout the building was old and the colors were fading, and that’s one of the first renovations someone noticed upon entering the school.
There are some people who like the new renovations, while others are not fans.
“I do not like the floors in the building because it does not match with what we have,” said head custodian Mr. Dorsey about the new renovations. “It’s hard to clean and it looks very dull.”
Not only were the floors in the school’s hallway renovated, but the main gym and the auxiliary gym were also repaired. In the main gym, there is a new logo at center court that includes the hawk mascot. Also, on each sideline, “HAWKS” has been added.
“I really like the new gym floor that we have,” mentioned by head varsity basketball coach Matt Graves. “We needed a new make over with the floor and it looks great.”
“I think the whole team is very excited to play on the new court this upcoming season,” noted star sophomore forward Jay Martin. “I can’t wait to get out there and be with the guys.”
When asked about how the new floor will impact the units in Sports For Life, Graves said “I believe the floor shouldn’t impact us but it will benefit us,” he went on to say, “The volleyball and badminton lines are already down, which gives us more time to play because we don’t have to set it up.”
Many people really seem to enjoy the new basketball court in the gym, just like Big 3 member Ciande Ndiritu, who stated “It looks great after the new renovations, and I can’t wait to get out there and play on it when the season is here.”
There are also students who like the new floors throughout the building, including myself. I really like the way it looks with everything else in the school.
“The new renovations in the school look really good,” added Jay Martin. “I came in on the first day of school and was surprised at how good the floor looked.”
