Spring is here, which means the River Hill Baseball team is back and ready to take home a state championship trophy. The Hawks had an impressive year last year, as they had a 12-4 record in county and 17-6 overall. Their season came to an end in the regional playoff game when they lost 5-0 to Chesapeake.
The first game of the year is scheduled on March 26 (weather permitting) at Oakland Mills. Will Reid expects “to go deep into the playoffs” and Danny Selby expects to “Win the states.”
Once again, Josh Mann and Tucker Finkelston are expected to lead the team. Reid said, “We have a large group of veterans on the team this year, but Josh Mann and Tucker Finkelston are two of our leaders.” So far, the team looks very similar to last year’s. Selby commented that “There are 5 returning players that did well last year and will do well this year they are Tucker Finkelston, Anthony Richards, Josh Mann, Will Reid, Connor McCullough, and myself.”
The team has many strengths, and one is that they all work cooperatively together. Selby believes that “the depth of the team” is River Hill’s biggest strength this year. The Hawks Baseball team will have added some new players to help contribute to the team. Selby indicated that “Tucker’s little brother [Casey] will be a key new player.”
Although they are a good team, these Hawks will still face some challenges when they go up against some other teams. Selby said that they have a big chance of winning states this year, but they will have to get past their “biggest competition” which “is Marriotts Ridge in the playoffs and Reservoir and Howard in the regular season but even with these challenges we can still win states.” The team has some really good players and some really good strengths and overall no weaknesses. When asked what are some of your team’s weaknesses, Selby said, “We don’t have any weaknesses.”
Overall, the River Hill’s baseball team is ready for this season and the playoffs, and we hope they will win a state title this year!
