The River Hill football team has been plagued with injuries these past few weeks. No matter the extent of the injury , it is still extremely horrifying to see our players get hurt. With 4 out of the 5 captains, Arjun Singh (sprained MCL), Karl Birzak (torn ACL), Jayden Simo (broken leg), Daniel Fahmy (dislocated elbow) getting hurt, and players like Nico Lancashire (bruised shoulder), MBJ Motoni (concussion), Eli Wallace (broken hand), and Bergen Remick (neck whiplash) getting hurt, the football team will need even more of its depth to step up to the challenge.
Ambulances coming to help is the last thing you would want to see at a football game. For the past 2 consecutive games, 911 has had to be called for a River Hill player. In the 4th quarter of the game against Atholton, junior MBJ Motoni had to be carried off the field on a stretcher into an ambulance that came onto the football field. He got kneed in the back of the head while trying to make a tackle. Thankfully, MBJ was only out for a week with a mild concussion. Daniel Fahmy was also carted off the field during the 2nd quarter of the Glenelg game. He fell on his arm awkwardly while making a tackle. This caused a dislocated elbow which will most likely rule him out for the season.
These players are prominent to not only the team’s success, but to its morale as well. With the absence of these crucial players, other teammates are going to need to demonstrate even more leadership on and off the field. Eli Wallace, Bergen Remick, and Nico Lancashire are already back on the field healthy, while Jayden Simo, and Arjun Singh are looking to make a return very soon. In the meantime, River Hill will have to play with what they have. Even with all the absences, River Hill is still a highly skilled team with amazing potential. Although some players will be missed, others will be given an opportunity to step up.
As Coach Breaon says, “You must always be ready to be the next man up. You could be one play away from getting on the field.”
