River Hill’s girls soccer is wrapping up after a successful season, and senior night brought spirit and wrapped up the girls home game with a bang.
On Tuesday, October 11, as per tradition, blue, gold, and white balloons were displayed on the home side and the seniors’ numbers were spray painted on the hill. Underclassmen had prepared for this night with hopes of a great game to follow.
The seniors–some being escorted by their parents and relatives and some walking alone–had their future schools as well as their intended major announced. Seniors were also asked to present one piece of advice for future players. Goalie Allie Billups advised players to “shoot on frame during practice so the team doesn’t have to run.”
On October 11, the girl’s team faced Centennial High School–a match that many thought would be a win for River Hill, The game, however, did not hold up this prediction.
After standard regulation of two forty minute halves, the Hawks could not seem to score, despite having possession for the majority of the game, so the game proceeded into double overtime.
The game concluded with a tie, which was an upset for the team, especially on senior night.
Senior captain Ella Ferrer proclaims, “Yes, senior night was not our best performance, but hopefully we step it up and the playoff season brings success.”
With two more games left of the regular season, River Hill girl’s varsity soccer is preparing to train their hardest for playoffs and show the county who’s in charge. For the seniors, they will leave it all out on the field and enjoy one last hurrah with the team they know, and the sport they love.
