This year the coronavirus has had an impact on everyone. It could have shut down your work, your school, or maybe even your favorite restaurant. As a result of the virus, sports have come to a halt across the world.. However, there is something to look forward to during this uncertain time; almost all of the major soccer leagues are hoping to start by mid-June. Some other leagues, such as the Bundesliga league, are hoping to start in late May. The last game the league played was March 11.
One of the reasons that many of the leagues want to play again is because of the mass amount of money they are projected to lose. The Bundesliga leagues would lose 800 million if they didn’t play another game this year. Clubs in the league began reopening training centers two weeks ago. The players had to work in small groups and have no physical contact. All games would be without fans present. The league estimates that 240 people associated with the teams would be present at each game. Everyone present would need to be tested every three days at a minimum. The Premier League last played March 9. They are hoping to restart on June 13 and are committed to restarting the season instead of ending it.
When the shutdown happened players were given individual fitness programs by clubs. Players would usually be given a three week break in the middle of the season but now being advised to use the time from mid-April to mid-May as a rest period. The Premier league is facing even bigger financial losses. One team in the league, Manchester United could lose up to 132.5 million from a combination of lost gate receipts and lost broadcasting revenue.
Soccer needs to come back because if it doesn’t it can possibly derail the next 5 seasons. If a team loses that much money they will not spend any in the upcoming transfer windows until they recoup the money they lost.
