Many clubs are coming up with ways to support the RHHS community. Clubs like Angel’s Network, Baking for Benefit, Hawks for Hunger, Red Cross Club, and Pay it Forward are just a few examples of RHHS clubs that are finding creative ways to give back to the community.
One club that has helped the River Hill community is Angel’s Network. Rebecca Ni, a Co-President of the club, explained that the club “supports the community by raising money and awareness for various nonprofit organizations.” She continued that they also “benefit the school through some events such as our Candy Grams event in February.” Rebecca also explained that Angel’s Network has organized six monthly service events just this year. She continued, “In November, we packed lunch bags for Grassroots, and made no-sew fleece blankets for Project Linus the following month. In February, we created Candy Grams for teachers and faculty members, and we ended March with the 25th Annual Talent Show.”
Red Cross is another club at River Hill that has been working endlessly to donate and give back to the community. So far they have sent cards to veterans, held a personal hygiene drive, and set up a blood drive for students to donate to.
River Hill’s Baking for Benefit club has also dedicated hours to giving back to the community. Sarah Lee, the co-president of Baking for Benefit, described its mission “to raise money to help local and worldwide charities while spreading the joys of cooking and baking as a school community.” In the past, they have held canned food drives to donate to the Howard County Food Bank, and just last month, baked and packaged over 70 bags of cookies for Grassroots. Sarah also shared, “Last year, we were able to donate towards No Kids Hungry and Grassroots, and we also love working to help other service clubs with their baking related fundraisers.” Hawks for Hunger, another club at River Hill, collected over 1,100 items and packed 150 backpacks with food for elementary schoolers to eat over spring break.
Since the beginning of the school year, River Hill students have put hours of time and effort into organizing fun events in order to donate to the community. They have partnered with larger organizations in Maryland including Grassroots, Howard County Food Bank, and much more. With the end of the school year approaching, we can’t wait to see what River Hill service clubs come up with to give back to the community.
