When asked about a television show following a group of doctors in a hospital, the first show that comes to mind for many is Greys Anatomy. However, only a small portion know and enjoy the show House.
House is a show that can appeal to many individuals. Those who love a laugh can enjoy the overwhelming sarcasm of the main character Dr. Gregory House, and for those who love the intensity and thrill of shows like Criminal Minds or How To Get Away With Murder will love the drama that takes place in this show. Every season and episode is quite similar.
It begins with a regular human being who comes down with a life threatening condition while participating in an everyday activity. The patient is sent to Princeton Plainsboro Hospital where a team diagnosticians, led by Dr. House, try to figure out the mystery condition and fix it. The variation of conditions and the difficulties in solving all these health crisis’ create an intense mood as the patients’ lives come down to the wire.
The team of diagnosticians is made up of Dr. House who is played by Hugh Laurie. Laurie does an amazing job sounding like a real life doctor. Although he is no ordinary doctor, the sarcasm and witty remarks make for a comedic environment rather than just a boring hospital scenario. The rest of the team played by Jesse Spencer, Jennifer Morrison, and Omar Epps act as the clear subordinates to Dr. House. But because they are subordinates does not mean they are any less valuable to the team. The other three doctors, are just as intelligent and nearly as witty. They all do an amazing job playing the “doctor role,” even though they aren’t trained to be a real doctor.
The directors changed throughout the whole show but the director for the first season of House was Greg Yaitanes. Yaitanes also directed a few episodes of Lost and Prison Break in his past which explains his ability to direct an intense show. The music adds to the suspense even though it isnt music you would hear on the radio. It is more just piano tunes that make the whole episode a cliff hanger.
House is a great show. The way you just want to keep watching to find out what is wrong with the patient and if the doctors will fix him/her or not keeps you on the edge of your seat at all times. Although the final episode of House aired in 2012, all eight seasons of the show can be found on Netflix.
