Covid cases, tornado threats, final exams- we’ve had it all. With the end of the school year approaching, students share some of their favorite moments and memories.
When asked to recall the highlight of this year, many students mentioned homecoming week. The week of homecoming was filled with various activities ranging from pep rally field activities to pajama day.
Sophomore Pooja Swamykumar shares that “I really enjoyed homecoming week; all the pep rallies and spirit week days were fun. I feel like it brought out the school spirit, especially because it was so soon after the beginning of the school year.”
Chloe Son, also a sophomore, agrees: “The Homecoming dance was fun because we didn’t have it freshman year, and I got to meet a lot of new people”.
Similar to homecoming, prom is one of the most popular once-in-a-lifetime experiences for high schoolers. Upperclassmen who were able to attend prom for the first time since COVID-19, are still left with memories of their prom night.
Hannah Resnick, a junior, says that “I got to hang out with friends and it was fun just to get to see everybody dressed up”.
Others, like freshman Chris Jung, are simply grateful for the fact that this entire year remained in person. Prior to the 2022-2023 school year, students had been fully virtual, with the option to transition into a hybrid format towards the end of the 2021-2022 school year.
“I liked that I got to see my friends after so long and have classes in person instead of online,” he says.
Despite the uncertainty of everything, students have been able to slowly settle back to their normal lives.
“Most clubs didn’t do anything last year but I got to join a bunch this year and even start my own. I was also able to go out and enjoy myself at, like, movie theaters and do sports,” says Sophomore Carolina Herrera.
COVID-19 seems to be getting better as time passes and we are able to enjoy the full high school experience. Hopefully, there will be many more big activities in the following years.
