Recently, numerous instagram accounts with a variety of contents have been circulating our school. The most popular accounts among students are: @rhhs_snoozers, @rhhs.slackers, @rhhs.short.ppl, @rhhs.tall.ppl
Some of the posts from these accounts include pictures of other students napping, catching people on their phones during class, short people from a tall person’s perspective, and much more. This playful trend has people scrolling through Instagram, checking for the newest updates.
Other accounts are more concerned with advancing a social statement rather than with amusing users. For example, the @rhhsnomask calls students out for wearing their masks the wrong way. This is a friendly yet stern way for students to keep one another in check.
On the other hand, a concern that was presented in other schools was the potential harm of the instagram accounts. Most students, however, have no problem with these accounts because they recognize it as something lighthearted and fun.
When asked about how she feels about the accounts, sophomore Anna Sretenski said, “I’m fine with them, they’re quite funny.” In addition, Jacob Thomas brushed off the previous worries by responding with: “I mean I don’t care; I’m not on them.”
To respect the privacy of students, the account owners will take pictures down at their request. “I would kinda understand because some people may not want pictures of them on there” expresses Anna Sretenski.
While some other schools have had some of their instagram accounts taken down, our students have been better at interacting with them.
Conscious of the precautions being taken in other schools, sophomore Lily Ulman comments, “I understand why [the school would take them down], but I wouldn’t be thrilled about it. Some of the accounts are harmless, but others are more harmful.”
These instagram accounts, which are not meant to be disrespectful, help students relate to one another. RHHS students have been reacting to these accounts in a positive and responsible manner so far; many are hopeful that there won’t be any incidents, which would lead to the accounts being taken down.
