Halloween is that magical time of year when creativity comes to life, and costumes are only limited by the imagination. Every October, people of all ages dive into the spirit of the season, transforming into everything from classic monsters to pop icons and unique homemade characters.
Sophomore Nora Abujuma was “Cleopatra. I have always loved her since I was a little girl so I thought it would be fun and cute to dress up as her for Halloween. I even attempted eye makeup as well but it was my first time doing heavy eyeliner like that.” Cleopatra seemed to be a common costume this year with Sophomore Masa Altamimi also being her. “She is a great role model for women and has timeless beauty. I felt honored to be embodying her and bringing back her spirit for the night.”
Beyond the costumes, Halloween also brings plans for spooky events, haunted houses and themed gatherings, where people can showcase their outfits and revel in the eerie atmosphere. Sophomore Serena Soldavin went to “a Halloween party that my friend Astrid threw. It was fun seeing everybody in costume, I was a pirate. I won the title “Most Creative” at the party. I saw so many creative costumes, one guy was dressed as Borat which was super cool.”
Halloween is also a time to gather with friends and family, to share the holiday spirit. Sophomore Vickie Backus states “I dressed up as a monster for Halloween and went to a Halloween party hosted by my family in Virginia. It was really fun, I especially enjoyed seeing all of my family members like my little cousin, Maya.” Similarly, Sophomore Seher Puthawala explains “I went to a haunted house with my twin sister, Safia, and some of my other friends. I was dressed as Elmo. I decided to be Elmo because my sister was the Cookie Monster and we thought it would be cute to match. I used to come home every day from first and second grade to watch Sesame Street.”
Halloween is a unique opportunity to embrace creativity, step into a different character, and enjoy a night of fun and frights. As you plan your Halloween festivities, remember that the spirit of Halloween is about community, creativity, and a good time. Whether you’re going for a last-minute costume or planning an elaborate getup, Halloween offers something for everyone to celebrate.
