Coming up in a family of dedicated soccer players, this River Hill senior was born and raised to play this sport.
Originally hailing from the United States Virgin Islands and moving to Maryland when he was 12 years old, Jonathan Fuller found himself with a new home on a different continent.
Jonathan quickly fell into much of his old routine in the Virgin Islands, and found comfort in participating in his two favorite sports, volleyball and soccer.
Eventually, during his sophomore year of high school, Jonathan made the difficult decision to drop volleyball, and throw himself more passionately into soccer.
When asked how he made such a difficult decision, Jonathan responded that, “It was a hard choice for me, picking between the two sports. But in the end, what decided it for me was the sense of companionship I feel from the soccer team, something I knew I’d never get from a non-high school sports.”
With two older brothers, one of whom plays for the U.S.V.I. national team, Jonathan had a lot to live up to in terms of soccer.
When asked what the biggest change he’s experienced this year he said, “Though being a senior on the team is a whole different experience, the biggest change for me is the addition of our new assistant coach. At only 23 years old, and a division one soccer player, he brings a new perspective to the coaching of the team and often connects with us players.”
Though not a captain, many of Jonathan’s fellow players look to him for advice and leadership.
Teammate, Josh Ditman, says that in times of crisis “Jonathan is my rock. No matter how badly we mess up or how far behind we are, Jonathan stays calm and collected. He is a leader on the team’s defensive line as well as for the team as a whole.”
