Hawk Flock Night, sponsored by the River Hill Boosters, is an event where anyone can come to enjoy themselves and become familiar with the various clubs at River Hill. This year, Hawk Flock was on Wednesday, September 28 from 6-8 pm.
Hawk Flock is an opportunity for clubs to share a little about what their group does. This event is a great way for clubs to promote themselves to the community, including those who do not attend River Hill High School.
Many clubs, including the Project Lotus club, signed up for a booth to showcase the purpose and activities of their club. Project Lotus aims to raise awareness of Asian-American discrimination, and provide a safe space for our Asian-American hawks.
Sarah Chin, a co-founder of Project Lotus, thought that “we should take the chance to let people know more about our club and what we do, especially because we just started this club so not many people know about it yet.”
The other co-founder, Lily Peng, shares that she and Sarah “will be running a booth with a tri-fold poster with stickers that basically explains what we try to do in our club. We also brought some games from different countries to show people.”
At Hawk Flock, clubs running a booth are required to have some sort of entertainment that they can offer to the audience, like how Project Lotus prepared games and stickers to engage those who might take interest in their club. Each club had a different activity, though. All the activities help bring awareness to both the start-up and established clubs.
The Spanish Honor Society, one of the largest clubs at River Hill, has been an active participant in Hawk Flock. President Isabel Marcus says, “Every year for Spanish Honor Society, we have a bunch of food that students and families can make that represents their own culture or a Spanish-speaking culture they’re studying.”
Club officers weren’t the only ones looking forward to Hawk Flock- students not affiliated in any clubs are equally excited for this once-a-year event.
Freshman Justin Choi shares that he is “looking forward to this event I don’t know anything about because since I’m a freshman, I didn’t know Hawk Flock was a thing until recently. I heard people saying there’s food trucks and fun activities. I’m hoping to find a club I might want to join.”
In total, there were manya great number of booths, and each had a positive outcome on the night of Hawk Flock.
As expected, Hawk Flock was a huge success; sophomores Chris Jung and Carlton Luu share that they “had so much fun. There were a lot of different clubs and some we didn’t know about, so it was cool seeing what students like to participate in. But mostly it was fun because we just got to walk around and spend time with friends at night at a big event.”
