One of Netflix’s most popular original series, Daredevil, has returned for its second season. Fast paced, well written, and expertly choreographed, this show has proven that Matt Murdock truly is the man without fear.
Season 2 of Daredevil was released by Netflix on March 18th. The entire season was released at once, which may take away from the cliffhanger endings that the producers have placed at the end of most episodes.
Much like season one, this season attempts to find a balance between focusing on the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen and the life of the man behind the mask. I found that this season, producers seem to have done a much better job connecting the separate plots. A much more interesting and engaging plot is the result of this improvement.
Charlie Cox continues to do an exemplary job portraying the blind protagonist. Some new cast members seem to show up every few episodes as well, all representing new characters from the Marvel universe.
Jon Bernthal is cast as The Punisher and does an extraordinary job. His appearance is perfect for the role and his harsh tone makes his performance even better. His acting is very believable and can even create an emotional connection with the viewer.
Another new character and possible love interest is Elektra (Elodie Yung). Originally a sidekick in the comics, Yung is stepping into an important role in the second half of season 2. She lives up to and exceeds all expectations for her character.
A significant improvement from season one is the improved emotional depth of the story. The plot now revolves more heavily around the consequences and obstacles that come with the double life of a vigilante. Season one had majorly separated the life of Murdock and his alter-ego, but in season two, the two story lines interact much more to create a more complex plot. Intertwining morale conflict over the prospect of vigilante justice, complimented with the fast paced action we saw in season one, completely redefines the show.
