A hilarious, popular sitcom on Comedy Central, Broad City, was first aired in 2014. The show is about two 20 some year old Jewish girls, Ilana and Abbi, living in New York City. They face all different types of misadventures due to their carelessness and lack of maturity. No matter what kind of trouble they got themselves into, these girls dive right into the mess.
Ilana is a very free spirited 23 year old who “works” at a random sales company, but is barely seen doing any actual work. She takes multiple hour breaks where she spends time with Abbi, doing and saying anything that comes to her mind, unphased about the way people react to her strange behavior.
Abbi is slightly more responsible, but still spends most of her time goofing off with Ilana. She’s 26, working as a custodian in a fitness center called Soulstice. She wishes she could be a trainer at Soulstice, but nobody takes her seriously. She is also an aspiring artist and has a dream of quitting Soulstice and pursuing art on a full time basis.
The show started out as a web series on Youtube. Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer met at the Upright Citizens Brigade, an American improvisational theatre and training center. From there, the two became best friends and got together in February 2010 where they started their web series.
Their Youtube careers were a huge success, and the series became much more popular than planned. , Actress and comedian Amy Poehler found their web series and became a mentor to Abbi and Ilana, and is now one of the executive producers of the show.
The show is currently on its third season, airing a new episode every Wednesday at 10 pm on Comedy Central. If you’re looking for a new, lighthearted show to watch to get the edge off, Broad City is the one! “There are not enough episodes of Broad City, I can’t take it. MORE EPISODES LADIES, it is my life,” Lady Gaga tweets.
