Should Kevin Durant come home to the Wizards in the summer of 2016? Durant, who is a native of the Washington D.C. area, has a big choice to make this coming summer. The Wizards should welcome Durant home with open arms.
Durant is a proven superstar, having won the MVP award in 2014, a 6 time All-Star, and 4 time NBA scoring champion, who also led his team, the Oklahoma City Thunder, to the NBA Finals in 2012. KD also has a career scoring average of 27.3 points per game.
The Wizards, led by young guards John Wall and Bradley Beal, would be a complete team if they can lure Durant to D.C. Washington has made the playoffs in the past two seasons, each time losing in the second round to the Indiana Pacers and the Atlanta Hawks.
While there are many positives to having Kevin Durant on your team, there is one downfall to it. As of late, Durant has been injury prone. Last season, Durant played in a career low 27 games with a foot injury which required surgery. Only 10 games in to this season, Durant has already been injured, straining his hamstring in a game that was played in D.C. against the Wizards that will keep him out 7-10 days.
Durant’s friend and opponent LeBron James announced in the summer of 2014 that he was “coming home” to Cleveland and received a lot of publicity. Durant has the opportunity to do the same by coming to the Wizards next summer.
Although the Thunder are viewed as the front runner in the Kevin Durant sweepstakes because they can offer more money than any other team, in my eyes I see Durant taking a hometown discount and coming back home to Washington D.C. to play for the Wizards.
