There’s a mix of excitement and tension in the air at River Hill High School as the end of the school year draws near. Students, teachers, and even parents are caught up in a frenzy of preparation, expectations, and anticipation as finals approach.
For students at River Hill, finals represent a significant challenge. Many are balancing a large academic load with extracurricular activities, part-time jobs, and social obligations.
Students employ various strategies to prepare for their finals. Some form study groups, to keep each other motivated and hold each other accountable. Others prefer studying alone, finding that individual study sessions are more effective. Technology also plays a significant role, with many students using apps and online resources to improve their study efforts. Students use tools like Quizlet for flashcards, Khan Academy for concept reviews, and Google Drive for organizing notes and collaborating on study materials. Kian Solimani, a freshman says “I have already started studying and I am using a quizlet a lot.”
Unfortunately, some students wait until the last minute before they begin studying. Sophomore Prathik Atluri says, “I have been procrastinating on these finals, but I’m studying now, I’m pretty stressed though.”’
There are many study habits that some students are using. One example is reviewing material several weeks in advance rather than cramming the night before. This allows for better long-term memory and reduces last-minute stress.
Additionally, teachers collaborate with one another to ensure that their students are not overloaded with assignments and exams all at once. This coordination helps to spread out the workload, making it more manageable for students. Teachers also emphasize the importance of breaks and downtime, recognizing that rest is very important in order for students to thrive. Teachers have given students many tips for the exam, one of them being reading instructions carefully. Students’ time management plays an important role in preparing for finals. Make sure to answer the questions you know first, then return to the more challenging ones. Try to stay calm and focused. If you feel anxious, take deep breaths and focus on the task at hand.
Finals at River Hill High School are the culmination of all the hard work and dedication the students have put in over the school year. While some students may feel stressed it is also an opportunity for students to show their knowledge and skills.
