With clubs starting back up at River Hill, students are looking to join groups that align with their interests. Many art and photo students recently attended the National Art Honor Society interest meeting on September 14th after school, where some of the upcoming activities and plans for the society were introduced. Excitement among the attendees was high, and students are enthusiastic to start on the upcoming projects.
Officers of the club delivered a presentation during the interest meeting describing some of the activities from last year, such as mural painting in the media center and Coffeehouse. Elika Tofigh, one of the co-presidents of the club, remarked that “I’m really excited! I feel like I have a good understanding of what goes on in the club and how we can make it grow. We also have a lot of ideas like more murals and collaborations with other clubs.”
The club officers also explained that they plan on trying to incorporate new plans and projects with activities from previous years. Rahul Goyal, the treasurer of the club, explained that “along with planning more murals, we also have new plans like Art Extravaganza and Blossoms of Hope.” These new proposals involve collaborating with local elementary schools to set up art exhibits, and collaborating with all Howard County schools to create 1,000 origami cranes, which will be donated to cancer patients.
Members of the Art Honor Society share the same enthusiasm as the officers. Along with the exciting planned activities, the club offers an opportunity to grow and practice art skills. Sofia Solimani, a senior in the club, described that “I think this club will be a great way to expand my horizons, it’s a great opportunity. I’m really looking forward to the mural painting this year!”
Students who are interested in being officially inducted in the club have submitted their applications, which were due on October 5, and have begun attending the weekly meetings held on Thursday in Mrs. Smith’s room. The society offers a community with opportunities for all members, regardless of experience and talent level, and it is clear that the members of the club are eager to begin the highly anticipated projects. The staff and students at River Hill are excited to see how the National Art Honors Society will use their creativity and talent to make the school a more positive, welcoming space!
