Each year, the senior class starts off their final school year with Senior Sunrise, a morning picnic on the blacktop behind the school tennis courts. Students arrive at school early and enjoy breakfast with friends, taking photos and watching the sun rise.
Although this year’s Senior Sunrise occurred much later than the first week of school as per tradition, students were excited to be able to finally partake in senior-year activities.
Naomi Ling expressed that she “really enjoyed Senior Sunrise. It was such a cute little perk of being a senior. Everyone seemed happier and more free-spirited, especially because of all the stress with college apps.”
Most students agreed with Naomi, claiming that they had much more fun than expected. Chaewon Cheon describes how she “didn’t know there would be so much food and drinks so it was a very pleasant surprise.”
Thanks to the generous donations from parents, students were able to start their day off with a warm and filling meal. Breakfast items consisted of a variety of muffins, donuts, juices, and coffee.
Many students don’t get the opportunity to enjoy a leisurely breakfast each morning, to which Lily Peng comments, “It was nice to be given food and to share it with friends. I usually don’t like to eat breakfast even if I do have the time, but eating with everyone while watching the sunrise was a totally different feeling.”
Pooja Swamykumar added that she especially liked seeing the entire class bond. “I feel like this is the year everyone is coming together, sharing the stress and glory of being a senior. With everyone wearing their class shirts and taking group photos, it’s really clear how much we’ve all grown together. We’re more like a family now.”
Although only in the first quarter of the school year, many seniors feel that the end is near. Multiple students, including Carolina Herrera and Becca Sirak went around asking their peers to sign clothes, books, rolling paper, and more.
All in all, Senior Sunrise appears to have been one of the many events which has brought the senior class much closer, encouraging them to push on toward the finish line stronger together. We look forward to seeing how beautiful the sunset will look like for this year’s seniors.
