Now that the seniors have graduated, students must fill in their roles as anchors for River Hill’s Hawk Talk. Not too long ago, auditions were held to become an anchor, and three students were lucky enough to receive the opportunity of doing so.
The role includes making announcements once or twice a week to the entire school during the first five minutes of third period. Announcers announce things such as clubs, school events, important updates, and student accomplishments.
Freshman Shivali Shah expresses that she “thought it would be more stressful, but everyone is so relaxed.” Shivali takes inspiration from her mom who “is a journalist…she’s been doing this for a while, so I wanted to try it out too.”
Another new anchor, Noelle Markos, says that her “favorite thing is getting to speak in front of a camera and collaborate with the other crew.” Noelle elaborates that “the hardest part is making sure you’re reading the lines properly because the teleprompter can go fast.”
The team of anchors includes Shivali Shah, Noelle Marcos, Kayla Garnett, Gabi Demuren, Hallie Goldstein, and Lauren Shin.
Although the announcers are a big part of the operation, the Hawk Talk staff are also extremely important to ensuring everything runs smoothly. “I have been a HawkTalk crew member for the past school year,” freshman Sophia Chudnovsky comments, ““There are many things I love about being a part of the HawkTalk productions… However, my favorite part is definitely getting to meet such amazing people from various grades!”
Although there won’t be more morning announcements for the rest of the year because of finals, we look forward to Hawk Talk next year!
