Mother’s Day was first introduced in 1914 by Wildrow Willson as a way to say thank you to mothers all across the country. Since then, the day has been celebrated every year, with stores advertising that you get something special for the ones who help make your life a bit brighter. It’s a great opportunity for students at River Hill to do something special for their moms.
Mother’s Day is a day to celebrate mothers and all that they do for their families. It’s a time where many take the time to appreciate everything their mothers do for them. Sophomore Rhea Nair said, “She’s just always there for me. I feel like I can talk about anything here. She’s like a best friend.” Junior Shaeleigh Fraser commented, “My mom is an immigration lawyer and helps people get their green card. She takes the time to learn different languages to make them feel more included. My mom is the absolute best. She has such a caring heart and beautiful soul.”
Whether you’re giving your mom a simple spa day or a bouquet of flowers, it’s important to make them feel special. Mr Cecil, an art teacher at River Hill, had already planned out what he got for his wife. “I had bought my wife a film camera and some earrings. I just wanted to make sure the day was easy and relaxing.” Students at River Hill are also thinking about what they are getting for their mothers.
Cole Spies, a sophomore, also commented that he “got [his] mom a candle that says ‘Sorry you had to deal with the other one.’ I thought it would be funny.”
There are many moments in our lives that people cherish and remember fondly, Mother’s Day is no exception. When asked about a fond memory on Mother’s Day, History teacher Mr. Wall described how “every mothers day, my mom would take me and my siblings to the zoo. It was this special tradition that we always did, so it holds a special place in my heart.”
With only four days left, many people are scrambling to get their mother the perfect gift. But even if you give her flowers, chocolates or even expensive earrings, the greatest gift a mother could have is the love she has for her family.
