With the fall sports season kicking in, the River Hill cheer team has been preparing for the games and competitions, while guaranteeing the seniors a fun last year. Their support for the football team has been stronger than ever as they encourage the student section to sing their chants, do their dances, and sing the school’s songs. With a strong school spirit, the team will help drive the football team to success.
The cheer team is a very hard working sports team here at River Hill, as shown by the amount of work they put into all their routines. With new members every year, they not only need to gain the skills, but also must trust one another to throw and hold each other up in the air for long periods of time.
Everyone on the cheer team has a different responsibility. Some students must hold girls in the air, others must strike impressive poses, and other members must be willing to be held in the air by their teammates. All the trust and commitment that goes into practices is the reason the team performs so well- not only at games, but also at competitions. Anisha Chakraborty remarks, “We are so excited to get back into the competitions and just prove to everyone that River Hill is a force to be reckoned with.”
The team is not only focusing on routines for football games, but is also dedicated to constructing a winning piece in this year’s county competition. After a tough loss in last year’s competition, the whole team is feeling more motivated than ever to steal that trophy from Wilde Lake High School.
All the seniors are eager to jump back into their last season of cheer. Everyone on the team is extremely optimistic, including Stephanie Mihkalik, who comments “I 100% believe that we are capable of winning this year, we just need to put in the work and give [it] everything we got”.
The girls on the cheer team are going to continue to work hard, and they will give their absolute best effort this year. As for the seniors, they will make the most out of their last year while pursuing the sport they love. As the team continues to motivate the football team, the school community will continue to cheer on the cheerleaders.
