On Friday, May 13, the physics classes at River Hill spent the day at Hershey Park in Pennsylvania. Students around Maryland and Pennsylvania went to Hershey Park for physics day and got to experience physics firsthand. On their website, they share, “What better way to apply your classroom knowledge of speed, energy, and force than by experiencing it first hand on our 15 coasters.”
As it seemed to be one of the most crowded days at Hershey Park, students went off on their own to explore the park and ride as many rides as they could. Junior Eric Roth, a frequent Hershey Park go-er, explained, “Those lines were some of the longest lines I have ever stood in, but I think it was really fun being in a huge group and being able to joke around with my friends while we were waiting.”
At the end of the day, most left the park wanting to spend another day there and ride their new favorite rides again. Sophomore Alex Pickel, during his first Hershey Park experience, said, “The anticipation waiting in line and getting on the ride was crazy and I have never felt like that before,” he continued, “Storm Runner was awesome as it went so fast in the first 3 seconds of the ride.” For a school field trip, this was one of the best experiences for many as it was just an exciting day full of fun.
“Students weren’t the only ones who had fun on the trip; teachers like Mr. Davis, Mr. Clark. Mrs. Hobbs and even Principal Lidgard who were chaperoning participated in the fun.” Senior Ainsley Little was jealous of Mr. Davis: “I should have followed Mr. Davis around. He got on six coasters and I only got on three.” Sometimes being strategic and going from the back of the park to the front of the park works out for the best.
Field trips are a time for learning, of course, but people like Junior Maddie Antevil used Friday to get closer to her friends and hang out with new people. She stated, “I am a big roller coaster junkie and it was so fun to have people stand in line with me and get to experience the adrenaline with me. Even though it is the end of the year, I made new friends today and that was cool.” The screams and thrills that come from roller coasters are truly a time when people can come together and strengthen the River Hill community.
