The River Hill cross country teams had a strong showing at the county Championships on October 27th, with the boy’s team winning by 2 points, and the girls placing 8th as a team. After counties, the team will run at regionals and states to fight for a win. As the end of the cross country season is approaching, runners have mixed emotions about their race and the future meets.
As a senior on the team, Robert King feels content with the boys’ performances and hopes to end the year strongly at Regionals and States.
“Our guys tried to stick together as much as we could. Bryce led our pack. It was a close race and Centennial has a good squad, but we were better that day. I am looking forward to Regionals in a couple of days and hopefully a state championship,” Robert shares.
Quinlan Ballou, a freshman, helped lead the boys to victory as the second runner on the team.
Quinlan says that “counties went pretty well. My time was 16:53. It wasn’t my best time, but I am looking forward to running better at regionals.”
Kevin Sanchez thought that it was a close race and that the boys had to work hard for their win.
“We didn’t know if we were going to get first place. We had to push together as a team to come out on top and we got the job done,” Kevin claims.
As for the girl’s race, Chloe McGeehan ran a course personal record of 18:57 and placed fourth overall.
Chloe proclaims that “Individually, I ran what I had hoped to and was able to break up the Howard girls which was my main goal. I know that some of my teammates on the girl’s sides felt that we could have done better. We are hoping to get to the 6th spot at Regionals and qualify for states.”
Chloe is a senior and acknowledges that four years of athletics requires a lot of energy.
“I’m excited for the season to come to a close but I am working really hard to have a good ending. It’s bittersweet but I’m doing it with people that make it such an amazing experience,” Chloe declares.
Amaya Aranda, a captain on the team, is proud of the girls.
Amaya knows that “some people weren’t happy with their races, but I think we all performed really strongly as a team.”
