“The only thing that is constant is change,” said by the Greek philosopher Heraclitus. During the past six months, River Hill has witnessed a number of changes: a new year, new students, and, most notably, new staff. Last year, Principal Kathryn McKinley and Assistant Principal Kedre Fairley were welcomed into the River Hill community, and now, with the addition of Assistant Principal Lindsay Galbreath, another new face has arrived.
Before River Hill, Galbreath worked at both Oakland Mills and Hammond High School as a Leadership Intern (an administrator that does not evaluate teachers) and science teacher. Among the classes she taught were Physics, Biology, and Chemistry. Galbreath’s “prior experience and knowledge of school policies and procedures bring a fresh perspective to River Hill,” stated Principal’s Secretary Jenn McQueeney.
When asked about why she went into administration, Galbreath declared that “while (she) loved creating a community in her classroom, (she) wanted the opportunity to create the same environment for an entire building.” Additionally, she added that she wanted to foster a situation where “students and teachers can challenge each other intellectually and get outside of the box.”
It is safe to say that our new assistant principal has taken kindly to her new home. “I’ve really enjoyed my time here so far,” stated Galbreath. “The other staff have been wonderful; they have always been willing to answer my one thousand questions and help me adjust.”
Like many students here, Galbreath struggles with time management as well, juggling her busy schedule at work and a home life. She said her goal is “continuing to build on our relationships and learning more about them (students)” in order to aid them through a busy high school life.
Galbreath hopes that this year she can “get to know the staff, kids, and parents.” “By getting to know everybody, (she) can figure out how (she) can best serve the community.”
