{"id":609,"date":"2016-05-09T09:41:14","date_gmt":"2016-05-09T13:41:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/riverhillcurrent.com\/?p=609"},"modified":"2016-05-09T09:41:14","modified_gmt":"2016-05-09T13:41:14","slug":"decades-of-dominance-for-uconn-womens-basketball","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/riverhillcurrent.com\/decades-of-dominance-for-uconn-womens-basketball\/","title":{"rendered":"Decades of Dominance for UConn Women\u2019s Basketball"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Justin Kortick, Staff Writer<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The sports world has never quite seen this much dominance by one team over two decades as we have seen in the women\u2019s basketball team at the University of Connecticut.\u00a0 Dating back to 1995, UConn has won ten of the national championships, including the last four.<\/p>\n<p>Led by superstar and future WNBA lottery pick, Breanna Stewart, a three-time MOP (Most Outstanding Player) award winner, the Huskies have won over 70 straight games.\u00a0 This doesn\u2019t top UConn\u2019s all time record of consecutive wins though, as the Huskies won 90 straight games dating from November 2008 to December 2010.\u00a0 UConn was then led by current WNBA superstar Maya Moore.<\/p>\n<p>With coach Geno Auriemma at the helm of the program, UConn women\u2019s basketball will be the best team in the nation for however long he is there.\u00a0 Auriemma started coaching the Huskies back in 1985, and has won a jaw-dropping 10 NCAA Championships since 1995.\u00a0 Coach Geno is also a 6-time Naismith Coach of the Year award winner and 7-time AP Coach of the Year award winner.\u00a0 Auriemma has won the most championships by a head coach in women\u2019s college basketball history.<\/p>\n<p>In this season, UConn is outscoring their opponents by an average of 40.1 points per game, while only allowing 47.9 points per game.\u00a0 To say this is amazing would be an understatement.<\/p>\n<p>As previously mentioned, UConn is on their way to a fourth straight championship.\u00a0 Assuming they win the championship, which they are heavily favored to do, that would push their winning streak to 75 games.\u00a0 We are witnessing a dynasty like no one\u2019s ever seen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Justin Kortick, Staff Writer The sports world has never quite seen this much dominance by one team over two decades as we have seen in the women\u2019s basketball team at the University of Connecticut.\u00a0 Dating back to 1995, UConn has won ten of the national championships, including the last four.
