"eating-in-class"By Devin Hendrick, Staff Writer

Teachers and administrators are strict about food and drink in classrooms. Students aren’t allowed to eat at all during class, and the only drink that they’re allowed to have in class is water. A student’s waterbottle has to be see through and clear so that teachers or administration can see that it is water that they’re drinking.

Although the rules do make a lot of sense, some students seem to disagree with them. Students don’t think that it’s a big deal to drink other things besides water, such as coffee or tea, but the administration thinks otherwise. Many students also think that eating isn’t a big deal either, and they don’t think of it as a distraction, but teachers and administration still think otherwise.

There is no need for students to eat in class because it could cause as a distraction, and students have designated times throughout the day to eat. Eating in class could also cause a mess that no teacher or custodian wants to have to clean up. There is also no need to be drinking things besides water. It also makes sense that water bottles should be clear so that students don’t try to hide other beverages besides water in their water bottles.

A good alternative to the rule that both students and teachers should agree to would be that though students still won’t be allowed to eat in class, they will be allowed to snack transitioning from class to class, during Hawk Time, and during lunch. The drinking rule should stay the same because most students don’t seem to have a problem with water and teachers would like it if it stayed the same.

Although some students don’t agree with the current rules, teachers and the administration do, so unless the students can get enough people to try and overturn the rule, it will most likely stay the same. Students should just be allowed to eat at the specified times.
