As the new school year begins, teachers and students prepare for exciting events to start it off. The fall pep rally is the first event of the school year and one that many look forward to. This year’s fall pep rally will take place on Friday, October, 4th and will consist of various activities and competitions planned by the River Hill SGA.

There are several students involved in the SGA. (each having a different role) who work together to create a successful Pep Rally. Senior Sara Khan, a member of the executive board, is “in charge of coordinating the various pep rally events and plans.” She explains that she has been “working on creating the script, ironing out logistics between different parties, and recruiting different performers and groups to showcase at the pep rally.” Sara relays that the success of the pep rally is reliant “on cheer and school pep, which is something River Hill definitely lacks in comparison to other schools.” Junior Leylani Ryang, another member of River Hill’s SGA’s Executive board, agrees, saying that she “would love to see more participation and spirit this year.”

Not only are the students working tirelessly to ensure that we have a successful pep rally, but so are many teachers. One of the sponsors of the executive board, Ms. Noecker, says she “help[s] lead the students that are on the executive board in planning” all the activities at the pep rally. She shares that there are “a couple new games that [the executive board is] going to introduce.” While some teachers are helping plan the logistics of the pep rally, many plan to participate in the competitions at the event and so are a lot of students.

The pep rally’s competitions include new games that will be introduced this year. Senior Dara Asante shares that she “might actually sign up to participate this year. I feel like I’m going to regret it if I don’t.”, she explains. As seniors are experiencing their last year of high school, many feel more encouraged to participate since this is the last year to do so. Not everyone is planning on participating in the pep rally, some are there just for the entertainment and to have a good time. “I’m not participating because I want to watch the performances without having to worry about anything else.”, says senior Aliyah Ally.

There is so much to look forward to when it comes to the fall pep rally. “I’m excited for the school spirit, getting out there, seeing what the school’s like and having fun.” says sophomore Gisele Hawkin. Another student, Junior Zaina Chowdhury expresses that she is “excited to have some time with [her] friends and to have a free period.”

Get ready for this year’s fall pep rally. With luck, the teachers, SGA members, and students’ efforts will come together to make this year’s pep rally a success.
