By Siena Houk, Staff Writer

Back-to-school season has arrived and as we get back into the groove of things, underclassmen are just starting to get a schedule. For underclassmen stepping into the halls of high school, this time marks the start of a fresh chapter filled with opportunities and challenges. Freshmen and sophomores are ready to take on the year.

Freshman Kennedy Jones says “I’m definitely nervous coming to high school because school is getting a lot harder but I’m excited to see all of my friends. I’m looking forward to meeting new people.” Much like Kennedy, freshman Sahiba Batra explains, “Joining a new school was terrifying. High school has been a lot different than I thought it would be. So far I like it.” Both girls, although nervous, are excited to begin their high school journey.

Extracurricular activities are a big part of high school with many students participating in either sports or clubs. Sophomore Andersen Connor says he plans on “joining the wrestling team this year. I think it could be fun and a good way to meet people.” Sophomore Serena Soldavin is playing on the “JV field hockey team. I also want to join the lacrosse team again this year. I really enjoy playing sports, it’s a really good balance for me.”

So far freshman Aanya Singh is enjoying “the atmosphere of the school. The teachers are good and people are very welcoming.” On the other hand when asked what she would like to change she says, “I’ve seen a lot of people not recycling, which I think is crazy. It is important to look after our community, especially if we have to come here every day. Sometimes people don’t think about the staff and how it is not their job to clean up after us.” Sophomore Astrid Smith agrees saying, “I would like to see a cleaner environment. It would also be nice to see students being more respectful to teachers. Some people in my class are outrageous.”

After a few weeks back, sophomore Amaal Arain is “doing a lot better. All my initial nerves are gone, and now my classes are going a lot more smoothly. At least now I don’t get lost on my way to class, mostly.” Freshman Riddhi Mittal can now “freely talk in class without feeling judged or like a nerd. I have a good amount of friends in class now which makes me feel a lot better.”

Overall, the school atmosphere is clearing up and becoming a lot less stressful for students. As a freshman this year if you are nervous, don’t be! Amaal Arain says, “Freshman year was super fun and will definitely be one of my most memorable.”

By Siena Houk, Staff Writer Back-to-school season has arrived and as we get back into the groove of things, underclassmen are just starting to get a schedule.
