As the 2023-24 school year starts to wind down, River Hill students have been hit with a surprise: Chick-fil-A! There have been recent discussions between the Administration and students about implementing Chick-fil-A nuggets and fries into the Friday lunch schedule.

These rumors were confirmed when Principal Motley was asked last Wednesday. “We’ve actually been thinking about this for a while and we’re looking to start after spring break!”

These statements have drawn excitement from River Hill students and staff who love the idea of ending the week with some excitement to add to their lunches. When asked about how this idea came about, Principal Motley said, “We just wanted to find a way to give the seniors a good last couple of months and really enjoy their remaining time with us.” So how exactly will these Chick-fil-A Fridays work?

According to administration, each student will be given 4 nuggets and as Vice Principal Mr. Robb says, a “good amount of fries.” When asked if students wouldn’t like the amount of food they’ll have on their plates since 4 nuggets doesn’t seem like much Mr Robb said, “I can assure you it’ll be more tasty than the regular vegan nuggets with fries so I think students shouldn’t complain, It’s not like we’re gonna pluck money out of the air to get each student an eight piece.”

As the whispers of Chick-fil-A Fridays spread throughout River Hill, Students are starting to catch on but some students have a little skepticism about it, like Senior Renato Tejeda who has some doubt that it would actually be happening. “Seriously? This gotta be cap. How can they even afford this? This might actually be crazy,” He can’t believe it’s going to actually happen but he talks about how it would actually be a good thing for seniors who won’t be here for long and want a last memory to cherish with their friends.

Meanwhile, amidst the buzz of anticipation, senior Iman Mbi offers a more realistic perspective. “That’d actually be pretty cool but it’s probably gonna make all the lines filled up.” The idea of Chick-fil-A Fridays doesn’t really excite Iman much as he says, “I can just go after school and get a full meal and actually fill myself up.”

When asked about how the administration will handle all the costs of nuggets and fries every Friday for four lunch periods, Vice Principal Mr. Penn brushes it off. “We’re not really gonna worry about where the money is coming from for now we’re just gonna go out and buy it with our school credit cards and see how it goes, we’ll probably be fine.” That’s a peculiar way of looking at it you could say?

As students weigh the pros and cons of this unexpected addition to excite their Fridays and send them off into the weekend, the air crackles with anticipation, with each passing day bringing them closer to the moment when the Chick-fil-A nuggets and fries will grace their trays, igniting taste buds and sparking conversations throughout the school.
