By Sara Solimani, Opinions Editor

As temperatures rise throughout the Eastern shore and days grow longer, many have found it to be suitable weather for resuming their beach adventures. Whether the time is right to be at the beach or not, these beach plans have been springing into action lately.

Local beaches that have been a hit for River Hill students include: Ocean City, MD; Rehoboth Beach, DE; Bethany Beach, DE; and Virginia Beach, VA. Although the water has not warmed up a decent amount for many of these beaches and the weather hasn’t been the best, there are still many students that have been adamant about going.

Trying to take advantage of all of the summer weather that they have, students and teachers have been looking forward to the revival of the beach season. Early June seems to note the start of beach activities, as many students are discussing their own plans for the beach. “I think [going to the beach now] is nice. I think we’ve all been working really hard this year so I think everyone deserves a little break,” says Junior ChaeWon Cheon. To add on, Junior Rami Almekkawi states,“I think it’s the perfect time. The weather’s getting nice, it’s getting hotter. I think it’s the right time to go to the beach. The only problem is the Seniors, they’re kinda messing things up.” Lexi Smithson, also a Junior, contributes, “My family starts going to the beach during late June but I would definitely go earlier if I could.”

There are numerous reasons for why students are so excited to be out at the beach. Avoiding bigger crowds, having some time to relax, sightseeing, and revisiting boardwalks are only a few of these reasons. For many, the joy that comes from going to the beach is not limited to having a nice swim. ChaeWon agrees, “I think it’s still nice to go to the beach. I mean there’s other things you can do like go to the boardwalk and get boardwalk fries and get food and just admire the beach and the water.” To pitch in, Lexi comments, “There’s a lot that people can do at the beach even if the water’s too cold. Like building sand castles and going on the boardwalk. I would play soccer on the sand with my family too.” Rami shares, “For people who enjoy the beach, I think it’s worth it to go right now.”

While some students are very excited to be going to beaches again, others are not so determined to head over just yet. Some of these students share their reasoning;“I think it’s a little too early. Especially Ocean City because of the Seniors going to Senior week there. I also think that you should relax more before jumping into summer and savor the good stuff.” says Junior Mira Karpati.

Teachers and students are keeping up with their habits from previous years and using this little getaway as an outlet for relaxation and fun before the school year ends. Overall, mostly everyone is excited to be hitting the beaches again.

By Sara Solimani, Opinions Editor As temperatures rise throughout the Eastern shore and days grow longer, many have found it to be suitable weather for resuming their beach adventures.
