With spring break coming up on March 31st, many students are looking forward to having eleven days off from school. Most students have plans for what they’re going to be doing, including traveling, spending time with friends and family, and taking time to pursue their hobbies and interests. However, although spring break is meant to be a restful time of year, a large number of students aren’t feeling totally stress-free.

Spring break is an important part of the school year for many students, as it gives them the opportunity to slow down. When asked how she feels about spring break, senior Jenny Liu states, “I think it helps me be more productive, and that’s less stressful for me. It’s not physically relaxing, but it’s less stressful because it’s hard to be productive when you have the pressure of having to turn stuff in tomorrow. You know that you can catch up and have motivation to do so.” Having time off from school allows students to take a break and focus on completing other things without the added pressure of having to finish schoolwork that needs to be turned in the next day.

Catching up on work isn’t the only thing students do during spring, however. Many students are looking forward to spending time with friends and family. Freshman Kaya Roy mentions, “I think it’ll help me relax because I don’t have to stress about homework, I can hang out with my friends, and it’ll just be a fun time.” Sophomore Anjali Gangalam agrees, elaborating that “Time off from school is always a good thing for your wellness.”

However, with third quarter coming to an end, many students are anxiously anticipating the dreaded AP tests and finals that come with fourth quarter rather than being able to enjoy spring break to the fullest. Anjali discusses her “mixed feelings” about third quarter ending: “It means closer to summer break, but it also means closer to APs and finals, so it feels like time went by fast. [Spring break] is kind of reminding me that I have to study for them.” Freshman Ishani Sinha has similar feelings. She remarks, “I am looking forward to having time off from spring break, but I’m not looking forward to the week before because I have to do work during spring break.” Although spring break is meant to be fun and restful, it often reminds students about what they will have to face when they come back to school.

With the school year coming to a close soon, students are going to do the best they can to enjoy their time off. The majority of students are preparing to make spring break an exciting, tranquil, and memorable time of year, taking the necessary time to relax so they can be productive in the future.
