It’s finally that time of year. The majority of seniors have made their decision on where they’ll spend the next four years of their lives. From big and small universities, to trade school, to the workforce, the seniors at River Hill High School are ready to move on from high school to the next level.

After a long year of working hard to make it to this point, seniors have to make their commitment to a university by May 1st. As the last decisions come out in April, this is a short turn-around for many students. Senior Anika Nair projects, “I’m nervous about the time between when I hear from my last school and May 1st. I hope I’ll be able to make my decision fast enough because I am a bad decision maker, and this is where I’ll be spending the next four years.”

Several other components feed into the decision making process, including sports opportunities, distance from home, and finances. Senior Nico Lancashire debates, “I’m unsure if I want to go to Clemson or a school where I could play college football. I have to make the choice soon.” Although students are unsure about where they will attend college, they hope to make the best decisions soon.

Other students, however, have made their commitments months ago. Senior Nathan Osheroff recalls, “I applied early decision to Duke and fortunately got in, so I’m set. It’s nice to have my future set so I don’t have to worry about making a decision or finding a roommate in a short period of time.” Many who applied early decision feel the same way, because their decisions were already made when they received their acceptance.

Seniors who have already committed are also excited to explore their major and meet new people. Samantha Densel, senior at River Hill says, “I am so excited to attend University of Delaware and major in education. I’ve worked hard to get to this point.”

After a hard year of applications, acceptances, and rejections, the seniors deserve congratulations and good luck for the next steps of their lives.
